Yellowdot Christmas Cup 2014
Blessed with glorious sunshine, 15 golfers took part in the 16th annual Yellowdot Christmas Cup at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club @HamptonGC on Thursday 11th December.
The team event matched up 5x three-balls, all drawn based on their handicap groupings, appropriately named the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Defending champion Mark Sykes hit the first drive, but its fair to say his team never really got going. Scratch golfer Ashley Weller led his partners Chris and Alex to second place in the team competition, and also managed to snaffle a couple of longest drives and nearest the pins between them. However, it was the captain of the final team Jez Hampton, ably assisted by team mates Tony and Paul that won the team event with a very respectable 72 points.
The main competition was of course the singles, and the chase for the Yellowdot Christmas Cup trophy itself. As ever the finish couldn’t have been tighter, with the top five covered by just three points. Winner by the width of a flared nostril was debutant Tony Head with 35 points, who took particular pleasure in accepting the cup from his nemesis Mark. Runner-up was Peter Smith (34 points), followed quite remarkably by Yellowdot’s very own Jeremy (33 points).
Many thanks to everyone for taking part, and making it such a successful event. See you in 2015!
