Yellowdot Christmas Cup 2017
Rather later than originally scheduled, following the postponement from December, the 2017 Yellowdot Christmas Cup took place at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club on Friday 23rd February. It was a bright but distinctly chilly day, bringing out a splendid but essential display of assorted woolly hats.
The 2016 Champion Jay Patel was looking to become the first in 19 years to defend the title, but as all before him the task proved too great. Jay did however pick up both the ‘nearest the pin in 3’ prizes so didn’t go home empty handed.
Returning after a couple of years absence, it was David Marlow who held his nerve over the closing holes to edge out Jez Hampton and capture the title with 31 points to 28. Three other challengers tied third on 27 points, on a day when the freezing cold conditions impacted on the scoring but not the competitive spirit.
Other prize-winners on the day were debutant Steve Harding with both a Nearest the Pin and a Longest Drive and Yellowdot host Jeremy with a Longest Drive. The Champagne Moment went to John Heywood, who collected this for two incidents on the par 5 fifth hole – a story better told than written, so please call for full details!
Many thanks to all golfers for braving the cold and making the day such a success.
